Salina Airport Hires Busboom and Rauh Construction Company to Build New Hangar and Office Complex

The Salina Airport Authority has contracted with Busboom and Rauh Construction Company to build a new 69,000-square-foot hangar and office complex in anticipation of continued growth at the SLN Aviation Service Center.

"The Salina Airport Authority is constructing an all new hangar and office facility as a key element of our long-term growth strategy," says Executive Director Tim Rogers, A.A.E. "This new aviation facility will be available for growth of existing and future aviation business at Salina."

Bob Miller, President of Busboom and Rauh updates the Salina Airport Authority Board of Directors and the Airport Authority Executive Director on the progress of the Hangar 600 project.

Busboom and Rauh will begin construction of the $6 million project at the airport known as America's Fuel Stop this fall, and the new aviation complex will be available to tenants in June 2008.

Project subcontractors include Superior Plumbing and Heating for plumbing, Pestinger Heating & Air Conditioning for mechanical, heating and cooling, Lytle Electric, Inc. for electrical and fire and Bamford Fire Sprinkler Company for the sprinkler system. Building architect is DMA Architects of Salina.

The site work is being completed by APAC Shears - Salina Divisionand Stevens Construction. The civil engineering firm is BWR Corporation.

The new structure features a 41,400-square-foot-hangar, 22,600 square feet of multi-purpose office/shop/multi-purpose space and a 5,000-square foot customer service area. The clear span hangar bay will be able to accommodate aircraft with a 100-foot wingspan and 28-foot tail height.

"The project is necessary, in part, because the Airport Authority has leased out all of its sizeable facilities to growing aviation operations," Rogers says.  "Consequently, the expansion will accommodate expected expanding and new aviation businesses on the airport."

"Going forward, we have the flexibility for over $20 million in financing for new projects," Rogers says. The Salina Airport Authority proved its ability to self-finance by building a new 4,300-foot general aviation reliever runway without FAA funding.

Most recently, the Airport Authority has facilitated a new 120,000-square-foot corporate headquarters and manufacturing complex on 15 acres, and an expansion and consolidation of a general aviation after-market aircraft systems supplier.
